Meet the Artist

Bethany Edmonson

Specializes in Watercolor and Acrylic Fine Art

I started painting because I was coming out of an abusive situation, and I needed something for me. I had always wanted to paint since I was big enough to know what painting was, but having never found it naturally easy to draw, I thought I could never paint because I would need to be able to sketch things out first – and I was TERRIBLE at it.

Skip a few decades into the future, and it no longer mattered to me if my painting wasn’t good – I just needed something that would bring me joy. I started playing with watercolors, and loose florals – watching short facebook videos of paintings and pausing them constantly to try to recreate what they were doing. I found that painting – especially with watercolors – gave me such a sense of peace, and was such an effective therapy – that I painted in any spare minute that I could. And by painting more and more, I found out what most of you already knew – none of us are born amazing painters – we put in the time and we get better and better at it!

I’ve come a long way since those first loose, messy paintings – and I hope given enough years, I can paint pieces that are more and more joyful, whimsical, and meaningful!

I have submitted paintings for exhibition in collections and competitions at a number of local galleries. Currently, I have original paintings at the 850 Gallery in Downtown Panama City, the Out of the Box Studio in Downtown Panama City, and the Panama City Center for the Arts in – you guessed it – Downtown Panama City! Check out a full list of where to find my artwork here.

I also teach classes at the Out of the Box Studio! Check out my Classes & Events page for the exciting options I have coming up!
